Squad
At LWA, we offer a progressive squad pathway that supports swimmers from their first squad experience through to high-performance competition. Our programs focus on skill development, enjoyment, and competition preparation, all delivered by accredited and experienced coaches.
Squads include Mini Squad, Development, Junior, Junior Youth, Junior Performance, State Performance, National Youth, National, and National Open & Performance. Squad pathways focus on enjoyment, technique, and competition readiness.

Our Squads
National Open & Performance
Top-tier performance squad for athletes committed to high-level national and international competition.
Focus: Maximising performance with tailored training and support.
Training: 8–9 pool sessions plus 2 dryland sessions per week.
Competitions: National Open Championships, International qualifying meets.
Entry: By coach selection based on dedication, attendance, and results
National
Elite competitive squad targeting State and National success.
Focus: Multi-stroke development, high-intensity training, and competition readiness.
Training: Minimum of 8 sessions plus strength training.
Competitions: National Age Championships, Victorian Championships, and District Meets.
Entry: By coach selection based on performance and commitment
State Performance
First step in LWA’s Performance Pathway.
Focus: Preparing athletes to final or medal at State Championships and qualify for Age Nationals.
Training: 5–6 sessions per week, including strength training.
Competitions: Australian Age Championships, Victorian Championships (SC/LC), Victorian Sprint Championships, Club Championships, All Junior and District Meets.
Entry: By coach selection with seasonal performance reviews.
State Development
Pathway for swimmers aged 11–15 aiming for Victorian Age Championships.
Focus: Technique, racing skills, fitness, and introducing strength training.
Training: Five sessions per week.
Competitions: Victorian Championships, Club and District Meets.
Entry: By coach selection following assessment of readiness and commitment.
Junior Performance
Supports swimmers aged 10–13 building toward performance levels.
Focus: Advanced stroke skills, medley racing, and increased fitness development.
Training: 3–4 sessions per week.
Competitions: District and State qualifying meets.
Entry: By invitation based on commitment and performance.
Development
For swimmers moving beyond learn-to-swim into structured squad training.
Focus: Technique in all strokes, building endurance, racing skills, and personal development.
Training: 1hr session a week to prepare swimmers for the Junior Squad.
Competitions: Club Sundays and local Encouragement Meets.
Progression: Advancement to Junior Squad upon meeting technical and performance criteria assessed by coaches.
Mini Squad
LWA’s entry-level squad for swimmers progressing from learn-to-swim programs.
Focus: Developing basic skills in all four strokes, building water confidence, and fostering enjoyment of swimming.
Training: 45-minute session once a week
Competitions: Club Sundays and local Encouragement Meets.
Entry Criteria: Typically aged 6+, able to swim 25m freestyle and backstroke unassisted.
Masters Squad
For adult swimmers aged 18+, from beginners to experienced athletes. LWA Masters welcomes swimmers seeking fitness, friendship, and fun.
Focus: Fitness, technique, social swimming, and optional competition.
Training: 2–4 sessions. Generally Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Competitions: Inter-club competitions, open water, sanctioned Masters pool competitions throughout the year.
